About ROPA
What is Reciprocal IVF?
Reciprocal IVF, also known as shared motherhood, partner donation or ROPA (Reciprocal Oocyte Partner Donation), is a fertility treatment where female couples can share motherhood in a unique way. One partner donates her eggs and thus becomes the genetic mother, while the other partner carries the child and becomes the physical mother. This method creates a special bond and strengthens the emotional connection between you as parents and to your future child.
About ROPA
The Reciprocal IVF Process
First Appointment
Arrange a first appointment with one of our expert fertility consultants. First appointments are free of charge and available without delay both online and in-person.
Agree a Treatment Plan
Your consultant will help you to decide who will provide the eggs and who will carry the child based on your medical and fertility history, as well as your preferences. Once you have agreed a treatment plan you can move forward without delay.
Stimulation and monitoring
The partner who will provide the eggs starts taking medication to encourage the production of mature eggs. This process is closely monitored with regular scans so the doctors know the best time to collect these eggs.
Egg Collection
Once the eggs reach the optimal level of maturity our team will help you arrange your egg collection. This non-surgical procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes, and you’re able to return home afterwards.
Embryo Creation
Embryos will be created in our laboratory by combing the collected eggs with donated sperm from either the Maigaard Sperm Bank or another bank of your choice. Once the eggs have been fertilised they are closely monitored until they reach a blastocyst stage, where they can then be transferred or frozen for use at a later date.
Embryo Transfer
The best embryo is transferred to the partner who will carry the child in a painless procedure.
Pregnancy Test
Two weeks after your treatment you will be invited to conduct a pregnancy test, which will indicate the outcome of your treatment. Whatever the result, our team are by your side to help you with the next steps.
