Questions about egg donation
What is egg donation?
Egg donation is a treatment in which a woman (donor) donates her eggs to another woman (or a childless couple) (recipients) so that their dream of becoming parents can come true.
Why is egg donation needed?
There may be several reasons why egg donation is necessary, for example due to:
- Premature menopause
- Previous treatment for cancer where the ovaries have been removed by surgery
- The woman is born without ovaries
- There is a risk of having a child with hereditary diseases.
Who can become an egg donor?
To be approved as an egg donor at Maigaard Fertility Clinic, you must:
- Be between 18 and 35 years old.
- Be physically and mentally healthy and free from known serious or hereditary diseases in the immediate family (parents, siblings and own children).
- Be able to attend 4-5 times during the treatment at the clinic (either in Aarhus or in Odense).
- Be of normal weight.
- Have both ovaries.
- Be tested negative for: HIV, infectious hepatitis (Hepatitis B and C), syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia infection.
