Why choose to pay for treatment at a private fertility clinic?

When considering fertility treatment, the choice between public and private care can be crucial for your experience and success.

Many patients choose private treatment because they want more individual attention and time to ask questions. Others are drawn to private clinics because it allows them to start treatment as soon as possible, or because public treatment is not available to them due to age or BMI.

Learn more about why patients choose Maigaard for their fertility treatment, and consider whether our approach may be the right fit for you.

No waiting time before treatment and initial consultation

At Maigaard, we do not have waiting lists, which means you can start treatment immediately instead of waiting for long periods. Initial consultations can usually be offered within a week, allowing you to begin the treatment itself quickly.
Fertility can change over time, so timing can be an important factor in fertility treatment. Planning your treatment carefully can help you make the most of your opportunities.

No waiting time during treatment

Private clinics strive to ensure you are always seen on time, avoiding long waits in the waiting room. The treatment takes place efficiently, so the whole process can be planned without unnecessary delays.
This helps ensure that your daily life can continue without unnecessary interruptions.
At Maigaard’s clinics in Aarhus and Odense, consultations are organised so that two rooms are used at the same time, ensuring a calm and unhurried experience. The doctor sees each patient individually, while the nurse or midwife in a separate room completes the consultation, reviews medication, and takes time to answer questions. This helps minimise waiting times while preserving privacy and a relaxed, respectful setting.

Flexible scheduling

At Maigaard, we offer flexible appointment times and extended opening hours. Morning scans before work and late consultations for new patients can be arranged, making it easier to fit treatment around work, and personal commitments.

Conveniently located clinics

Maigaard’s clinics in Aarhus and Odense are centrally located, making them easy to reach for patients from across the region. Free parking and calm surroundings help make visits as comfortable as possible.

Continuity in treatment

At Maigaard, you will experience continuity in care, with a smaller team monitoring your treatment from start to finish. Patients meet most of the team throughout their treatment, receiving consistent, attentive follow-up rather than being assigned to a single doctor or nurse.

Individualised treatment

Private clinicts often provide personalised treatment plans tailored to your specific needs. At Maigaard, each plan considers your medical history, previous treatments, medication response, and lab results, helping us evaluate and optimise future cycles.

Access to advanced technologies

Private fertility clinics often invest in advanced laboratory technologies and specialised treatment methods. Depending on the individual patient’s situation, this can play a role in how eggs, sperm, and embryos are evaluated and handled during fertility treatment.
Some treatments, such as egg donation, are offered to a limited extent in the public sector, but are more readily available at private clinics, where technology and specialised expertise allow for tailored solutions.
At Maigaard Fertility Clinic, laboratory technology is an integral part of the evaluation and handling of eggs, sperm, and embryos throughout the treatment process. The clinic continuously invests in specialised equipment and laboratory methods used in modern fertility treatment.
Among the cutting-edge technologies used at Maigaard is IDA Score, an AI-based tool that assists embryologists in assessing embryo development by analysing detailed developmental patterns. The clinic also uses the Embryoscope, a time-lapse incubator that allows embryos to be monitored continuously during development without removing them from the controlled laboratory environment. Maigaard was the first private fertility clinic in Scandinavia to introduce this technology.
Depending on the individual treatment plan, Maigaard also utilises specialised laboratory solutions, such as:

  • IMSI technology, which allows embryologists to examine sperm cells under very high magnification when selecting sperm for fertilisation;
  • Zymot, a device that helps separate and select motile sperm cells for fertilisation procedures;
  • Assisted Hatching (AHA), a laboratory technique that makes a small opening in the embryo’s outer shell to support the natural hatching process before implantation;
  • Embryoglue, a specialised embryo transfer medium designed to resemble the environment in the uterus during embryo transfer;
  • GM-CSF culture media that contains specific growth factors used to create supportive conditions for embryo development in the laboratory;
  • HBA laboratory tests used to evaluate how sperm bind to hyaluronan, which can provide additional information about sperm maturity.

Increased privacy and comfort

At Maigaard, we provide a comfortable and private environment. Calm surroundings and high-quality facilities help make each visit as relaxed as possible.

Patient-focused care

Private clinics prioritise patient experience, satisfaction, and clear communication. Patients at Maigaard can contact the clinic for an initial consultation or with any questions about their treatment. We are available by phone during extended hours, including weekends, or by email, and respond promptly. Throughout treatment, patients remain in ongoing communication with doctors, nurses, and midwives.

Free Fertility Treatment vs. Paid Fertility Treatment – Choosing the Option That Fits You

While free treatment in the public sector may seem like the obvious route, the advantages listed above make a private clinic a suitable option for some patients.
Consider your options carefully, and contact a public or private fertility clinic for more information and to begin your path toward parenthood. At Maigaard, we are always open to an honest discussion of your treatment options and ready to support you in choosing the approach that feels right for you.
Note that if you are already undergoing public fertility treatment but want to pursue part of your care privately, this is possible. The patient’s history can be transferred, and the treatment is carefully coordinated by the clinics.
If a patient has already been assessed in the public system and relevant tests have been completed, these can often be used at Maigaard.
When starting IVF treatment under these circumstances, we offer a DKK 5,000 discount. To qualify, the treatment must transfer fully to our clinic and cannot run alongside a public treatment course.
It is still possible to begin treatment at Maigaard while waiting to start in the public system. Relevant medical records and test results can be transferred, helping to avoid unnecessary repetition and ensuring a smooth and safe transition to private care.
