IVF with Egg donation
New hope - Overcoming female infertility with IVF treatment
IVF with donor eggs is a highly reliable and effective fertility treatment, giving women who cannot conceive using their own eggs the opportunity to achieve successful pregnancies with high rates of success.
The treatment involves a process, where a woman voluntarily donates her unfertilized eggs to another woman, who experiences low ovarian reserve, bad quality of eggs or a genetic disease. It can also be for women, who previously have undergone numerous demanding treatments with no success or premature menopause.
At Maigaard Fertility Clinic, we offer multiple options to help you achieve your dreams:
- Danish egg donation program: we select the most suitable anonymous or open-ID Danish donor for you (some waiting time to be expected)
- Fast-track egg donation program (NEW): benefit from our exclusive partnership with the leading international egg donation clinic in Portugal to beat waiting times. This treatment is available in-house so no travel is required.
- Known egg donation program: you are permitted to use a volunteer donor, which could be a family member, acquaintance, or friend willing to be an egg donor for you.

Treatment phases
Initial Medical Consultation & Testing
During your first consultation, your fertility specialist will thoroughly assess your medical history, and discuss treatments with you. You may be asked to undergo further health checks, to help tailor your treatment and maximise your chances of a successful pregnancy. These include bloodwork, semen analysis (if applicable), ultrasound of the uterus and other tests.
Our goal is to offer you a highly specialized treatment with a focus on our patient’s wellbeing, safety and success in a warm & welcoming environment. We will stand by your side to help you throughout the process.
Finding your Donor
Our Donation Team will work with you to find your ideal egg donor through one of our programs stated above, or you can use your volunteer donor if you have one. At Maigaard, all our donors are carefully selected, screened and undergo a thorough evaluation process. This also include all donors obtained through our partner clinic in Portugal who uphold the exact same standards.
Your chosen donor’s eggs will be fertilised with your partner’s sperm or with donor sperm of your choice to create an embryo ready for storage before we can plan your transfer.
Endometrium Preparation
Transfer of a frozen embryo is usually done during a mild hormonal replacement cycle. In the process of frozen embryo transfer, hormonal medications are administered mainly as tablets with additional vaginal gel/capsules before the transfer and act to prepare the uterus for the implantation of the frozen embryo. You should expect to have 1-2 scans before the transfer can be planned.
The term "mild" implies that the hormonal adjustments are not as intense or aggressive as in a full hormonal stimulation cycle, and they are designed to create a receptive environment for the embryo without overstimulating the ovaries.
Embryo Transfer
The embryo transfer procedure is one of the final stages of the treatment. Your doctor at Maigaard Fertility Clinic will place one thawed embryo in your uterus to try to obtain a pregnancy.
Any viable surplus embryos obtained can remain frozen in our cryo-storage facilities until the woman reaches the age of 46. These can be used in a subsequent frozen embryo transfer cycle (for a second child or if the first attempt fails).
Pregnancy Test
After the embryo transfer you will need to wait 9 days for a pregnancy test.
